Sarah van Dongen is a Dutch illustrator based in Amsterdam. She originally studied Comparative and Contemporary literature before moving on to the MA in Children’s Books Illustration in Cambridge, UK. The narratives Sarah creates are interpretations of her daily life, her own memories, and dreams. She loves to explore how colour, the use of details, and different settings can influence the atmosphere of an illustration. Although Sarah tends to create images that are sweet and safe, she doesn’t shy away from the difficulties that every human being (eventually) faces. Subjects such as insecurity, loneliness, and loss are part of every phase of life, including childhood. Sarah has worked for Adobe, Flow Magazine NL, AWW Magazine, Cricket Magazine, publishers and charities.
