About the artist:
Cristina Pieropan is an accomplished Italian artist. She creates her elaborate illustrations using the technique of etching and then hand tints the prints with watercolor. Cristina’s favorite themes are cities and buildings with windows that tell the stories of her characters, descriptions of plants and flowers. She also uses details of fabrics and patterns influenced by her experience as a fashion designer. She has illustrated over 25 picture books in Italy and abroad for major publishing houses and her work has been selected in several international exhibitions, such as Itabashi Art Museum, Tokyo; BIB Biannual of Bratislava; CJ Picture Book Festival, Seoul; Nami Concours, Korea; Sharjah Illustrations Exhibition, UAE; Bologna Illustrators' Exhibition Books’ Fair; Jean-Jacques Rousseau House, Geneva; Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Roma; to name a few. One of her etchings is now in the Royal Collection of Buckingham Palace. The book “Tu grimpes drolement bien aux arbres!”, Editions Notari, was selected for the White Ravens list; her book on Degas is available at the MoMA N.Y. Cristina traches engraving, chalcography and papier-mâché workshops for children and adults at museums, libraries, and bookstores. She lives and works in CastelfrancoVeneto, Italy, with her big family and a big black dog.
